Prior to 2009, the land where Stone Tower now sits operated as a cattle farm for many years since the hillsides weren’t suitable for any other type of farming, as the soils were too rocky. This feature was one of the critical elements in making our site perfect for growing grapes and also made prepping the fields for vineyard planting a Herculean task as the many large boulders and stones needed to be removed so as not to damage our tractors. All of the stone you see in the buildings and around the property at Stone Tower came straight from the vineyards, and now we page homage to our terroir in another way with the new red blend “Fieldstone.”
